Creativity is such a loaded word. It evokes a trove of emotions and sentiments from intense feelings of enlightenment, hope and joy to anxiety, envy and despair. This one word embodies quite possibly the hardest aspect of being an artist. One would hope it could be turned on and off like a faucet or light switch. Yet it is impossible to enter a workplace or studio and on demand produce fresh, original and creative ideas.
I love the writer and speaker Elizabeth Gilbert’s insight in regards to creativity. She defines it as being synonymous with motion. Moving forward and showing up every day nurtures and welcomes this inspirational state of creativity. Everything you do, see, taste and hear all filter through you to what you do with you art. Creativity to me is defined as always having an open mind and eye. To allow daily life to give you the materials and direction to help you make something that is uniquely yours.
